What Trump does doesn't really happen in reality — I am dreaming it up
I am having one of my absurd dreams again. This dream sees the newly elected leader of an otherwise democratic country going to destroy this very democracy, which also happens to be one of the oldest in the world. I am talking about Donald Trump in his second term of course.
Where to start...
Removing the right of citizenship of people born on US soil from the Constitution (14th Amendment). Already challenging parts of the Constitution. Which President did this in the last over 500 years? Thankfully stopped by the federal court.
Which brings me to the potential removal of federal judges ruling against Trump's liking. If he can, that's the highest form of abusing the law. This and other things would give him the power to rule with an iron fist, ignoring all laws. That is hat a dictator does. But even Putin is not that ignorant to the country's laws.
Renaming a place outside United States borders. Because it was the Gulf Of Mexico it feels like "Watch out Mexico! Behave the way we want it, or the USA is coming for you — you're surrounded!" to me. That was totally uneccessary.
Drill baby drill! Let's destroy decades of accomplishments to tackle climate change. Open more oil wells, frack the shit out of wherever gas is found and build more coal fire plants to burn this oh so clean coal. Got me the picture of Trump licking a lump of coal like a lolly pop. Not to forget to tear down wind parks, because they disturb fish (without giving evidence), and null the paper straw policy of Biden and get back to plastic straws. Understandable action. Why should Trump care about what happens to others and the environment after he passed away in 10 or 15 years from now? But he forgot to make a decree to remove solar panels, because (he'll find an absurd reason...) and replace electric motors of Tesla and other EVs with V8 gas guzzlers. Ah damn, he cannot do this to his f**ck buddy Musk.
Get rid of Palestinians from Gaza to finally build another Trump Hotel in Gaza. With Gold course, casinos and all Trump loves. Palestinians cannot afford to go there, so they have to go. They don't like to live there anyway in Trumps opinion... Actually there are other places in this area with a coast line where Trump could make his dream of a "Riviera" reality. But no, let's take the more challenging approach to achieve a similar result by ethnic cleansing and destroying decades of building friendly relationships with Arab states like Jordan and Saudi Arabia. If Trump goes through with displacing Palestinians he will have another 9/11 on his hands. Plus that the US is getting involved in Gaza seems not even be necessary, because Israel appears to be able to clear out pockets of Hamas by itself, even if it make take more months or years.
The forced removal of Palestinians because of the not exploded bombs is just another lame pretext of Trump. Did he see the devastation of Tokyo or Berlin in 1945? Neither Japanese nor Germans were "removed" because of the unexploded ordinance. But why stop after the displacement of the people of Gaza? After building a Trump tower in Gaza Trump might think that where now is Tel Aviv there should be a city after Trumps idea. To raze Tel Aviv the citizens of Israel need also to be moved. Camps would be built in rural areas to accompany the mainly Jewish population. In these camps they could focus, or should I say "concentrate" on things.
With a not announced phone call to Putin Mr. Trump broke western countries isolation attempts of the aggressor. That with not allowing Ukraine to be part in peace negotiations is unprecedented. Here, Trump negotiates a peace deal with the invader rather than the invaded country (Ukraine). I think this is unheard of.
Buying Greenland or Canada. While the idea of buying Greenland (which belongs to Denmark) isn't new, the idea of getting US hands on Canada is. But in my opinion that is not what Trump wants. He wants to poke either country to do something he wants. Same goes with tariffs in my opinion. It already worked with Columbia baking down taking own illegal immigrants back being threatened with high tariffs. Canada and Mexico also agreed to do things Trump wants and got a 30 day out time. Suppose there is nothing than backing down, or risk a full scale trader war with the US, which the US likely will win.
As for Rare Earth, Trump wants free access to Ukraine's deposits, claiming they have to pay back the military aid given under Biden. That's an argument any slimy salesman would use to maximize profits. But the aid was a sort of donation given by Biden with (to my knowledge) no strings attached. None of Trump's business. Initially Ukraine wanted to give the US access to Rare Earths in return for security guarantees, the continuation of military and humanitarian aid. But the US didn't offer those. Zelensky should push Trump again to commit, but this time saying that there are other countries with a huge military spending, which are interested in access to Rare Earth deposits, but without saying "China", as Trump can figure this out himself.
Seems the US heads to a form of neo-nationalism. Long groomed rules of the past century, including the democracy, are swept out of the window. While that happened in the recent century already, not the military strongest country (was already the US) was the culprit. And even though it took years and millions of dead, democracy prevailed. Now the strongest country is the origin. And the "rest" of the democratic world is not strong enough to challenge the "opponent". Thus either they, as always, need to follow the "alpha male", choose a different camp (communism). Or isolate themselves from global affairs and wait until 2029, when hopefully a new administration enters the White House, getting things back to normal. Thus sheltering democracy from neo imperialism and autocracies, helping it to survive.
Sounds impossible, but the US President seems to be caught in a Russian specially for Trump made illusion. Mid February 2025 we was mirroring the Russian narrative that Zelensky isn't the legal president of the Ukraine, because his mandate expired May 2024, and there were no new elections since. Putin, and now Trump, are calling Zelensky a dictator. Who by the way started the war in 2022! WTF? Trump said he is aware to sound like the Russians, but that his statements really came from him, and backed by other leaders, without giving evidence who those leaders are.
Anyway, the Constitution of Ukraine states that under Martial Law there will be no elections. That's sound, and most countries other than the US, Russia and other pariahs accept it. May be Trump should also look into US' history, because their Constitution (and that of many countries) has a similar clause.
Trump also claimed Zelensky's approval rate was 4%, when i fact it was well over 50% in polls made every year since Russia invaded Ukraine. Did Trump pull the 4% out of his ass? Like with other "facts", like immigrated people from an US State (I forgot which one) would eat pets. That and many other of Trumps statements were debunked already. Is Trump an idiot? When he pulls numbers out of his ass he must be aware that his statements will be checked by others. Or is Trump smart doing this, because if you only spread enough fake news people's brains rot and will just accept anything coming from a flashy person?
A new world order is on the horizon. Trump with his henchman Musk are actively dismantling the old world order, which served western societies well since the end of the Second World War. Yes, it's "America First". But it seems short sighted, because the "old world" helped America to become the strong country it is today. Brushing Western Europe, Australian and Canada aside might just backfire in the near future, once Europe, Australia and Canada came up with a new trading ties, isolating the US. Sure, first it will be painful, with many companies faulting and a lot of money lost. But after a few years their bond should be strong enough to generate good lives for their citizens again. But now virtually free of the "big watcher" protecting them, but since Trump's second term put a too large burden on their economy, and not forget democracy.
It all looks like a game show with Trump wanting to be a celebrity in the spotlights being cheered by his worshippers. He is doing anything to stay in the spotlights, feasting from the cheers of the audience. Even if this means destroying the democracy and relationships to western countries, which was worked on to smooth out edges over decades. Trump doesn't cares if the western world goes to shambles long before his death. He lives here and now. But may be he should. Because he'll leave a legacy. It can be that of a great leader like Lincoln, or that of Putin, Stalin and Hitler, whose rules cause millions of death, while their aim (to reach world domination) ultimately failed. Trump's legacy will be that people in the future talk about him of the person destroying democracy and prosperity of the western world for purely selfish reason of him wanting to be a rock star.
Neither friends nor foes have much leverage against the mighty US being number One in military and economy. But may be they have against the person who uproots the known and for most countries working old world order. Mess with their economy. Tariffs or even sanctions for important goods (I could think of fuel sources in Canada or food, especially vegetables from Mexico) could do havoc to the US economy. Trump will retaliate, so the other countries will have to have a long breath. Then inflation and prices in the US should raise sharply, also leaving empty shelves in stores. More and more citizens struggle to put food on the tables and other things the US hasn't seen in decades. US citizens will notice that Trump can not fulfill his promise the Make America Great Again and to get rid of him. He needs to be (forcefully?) removed before anarchy breaks out, because he won't leave office even if voted out (January 2021 in Washington should still ring a bell). Then hopefully his successor is not a sociopath and bully, and able to fix some of the damage Trump has done, to get back to normal at some point — if this is still possible then. Conclusion here is to mess with the US economy to try to oust Trump from the Oval Office.
But I don't worry. Nothing of this actually happens. It's just one of my bad dreams, because it's too absurd to be true. Soon I'll wake up and it's 2015, where Hillary Clinton just won against Trump, and all will be like it always has been. Predictable based on democracy valued.
Cannot wait until the nightmare Trump causes will be over? The Trump's Days Clock countdown might help to calm down.
