Why Europe won't give up on Ukraine
Donald Trump wants the war in Ukraine to end, so he can focus on the probably coming clash with China. As pretext he says the killing must stop. Too many soldiers have died. His idea to end the war is to stop supporting Ukraine, so they quickly come to the table to sign a surrender. Before he was elected one of his promises was that he would stop the war within 24 hours. And claimed, that if he was president in 2022 the war would never had started. But as of 2025, being in office for several months, he was unable to fulfill promises he gave before his election.
And he wants other countries to also stop supporting Ukraine, especially those in Europe. Because if Europe continues support for Ukraine, or even ramps up the current level of support, the war will be prolonged instead of shortened. But he won't be successful persuading Europe to give up on Ukraine. This is for at least two (even for Trump) simple to understand reasons I explain in a moment.
Trump doesn't cares about anything but making a deal, making money. He doesn't care to destroy 80 years of grooming Europe to get in line with America, or if the democracy in the "free world" dies. But by abandoning the old continent he creates a dilemma for him to end the war in Ukraine. He is prolonging it instead. Millions of more dead are on Trump's hands. Trump doesn't understands the world isn't just black and white.
To understand why Europe won't give up on Ukraine Trump needs to understand at least two points.
- Putin is a dictator, which wants to expand his territory at all costs. A selfish prick, who like Hitler of Germany and Hirohito of Japan wage war for their own personal goals — not unlike Trump by the way. It is already hard to grasp when Trump calls Putin "okay", doesn't denounce that Russia is the aggressor, because he wants to make business with Russia again, even thinks of lifting the sanctions in place since February 2022. And he doesn't notices Putin is playing him to an extend, that Trump even works like a megaphone for Putin. I mean if brain dead people like Tucker Carlson boost Russian propaganda that can be put aside as trolling. But if the leader of the most powerful country of the world relays the Russian narrative and doesn't notices it although his Pentagon and others in his circle telling him so, he is just utterly incompetent.
- Ukraine is on the eastern flank of the free world, but already in part occupied by the Putin aggressor. Putin doesn't stop there if he wants the USSR back. West to Ukraine are the Baltic countries to the west, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Some have a boarder with Russia, some with Belarus, which in my opinion can already be considered as a Russian oblast, with its leader Alexander Lukashenko being a Russian puppet. Then there is Poland, which also shares a boarder with Ukraine. West to Poland is Germany, further west The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. And to the south France. If Ukraine falls, the Baltic States and Poland are next in Putin's scope. There Trump finds the reason Europe won't give up on Ukraine. It might sound weird, but in my opinion Ukraine serves as a buffer to keep Putin out of West Europe. Countries with a strong economy like France, the UK and Germany, are buying time to prepare themselves for Putin invading them. Mainly ramping up its military to be ready to repel Russian aggression. In the meantime support is given to Ukraine to contain the Russian threat at least until Europe's newly founded military industrial complex gains strength to engage Russian forces if they invade.
Because Trump won't get Europe to give up on Ukraine so Russia can defeat them, he has a problem. Or hasn't he? Because currently (as of spring of 2025) Ukraine is good slowing down the Russian advance by repelling attacks, blowing up military infrastructure in occupied Ukraine, but also in Russia, which Russia cannot easily replace when destroyed. That's especially true for air defence systems. Because the air defence systems cannot be replaced or moved from other locations like Moscow, fewer and fewer of these systems available Russia in certain areas, thus "opens" air space for more Ukraine attacks on Russia to destroy even more military infrastructure.
If Donald Trump would now ramp up military aid to Ukraine, Kiev has a good chance to not only contain the Russian threat, but to push Russia back. Pushing them out of the occupied Ukraine territory, including Crimea. After Russian's defeat the country could be occupied by allied forces, including Ukraine, but also the US. To make sure there will be no more aggression coming from Russia. So by ramping up military help to Ukraine the war could end much earlier than when trying to stop all aid to Ukraine. Fewer people would die and the US has her hands free to focus on the probably upcoming confrontation with China.
