But also repeated his claim he needs Greenland, which is governed by Denmark, a fellow Nato partner. The Danish and Europeans are understandably not happy and state it's upon the Greenlanders to decide their future. And threats to take it by force are unprecedented. And it might spell the end of the Nato alliance.

Sure the US could take Greenland with its less than 60,000 citizens in a matter of days, if not hours. But the EU won't sit by idle to have its already weak position in the world to be even more eroded. Putting all on one card, assuming Nato will fall apart if the US invades Greenland, the European Union might just have a trump card (pun intended) up its sleeves.

The US is expected to retaliate. Because the US exports more than 650 Billion Dollar to the EU annually, with more than 3 Trillion worldwide, exports to the EU are more than a quarter of all exports. Both the economies — the US and the EU — will take a massive hit, might even collapse. As result China will benefit, becoming the largest trading partner for both the US and EU. Every EU member country will have to increase her trade with other EU countries, as well as Asia. Trump will make China the world's only superpower, without China moving a muscle for it. All because Trump with his selfish ego wants his dreams to become true.

Too much is at stake for the Trump administration, thus I doubt he will see it through to "own" Greenland if paying the hefty price to not only ruin the US economy, but giving away the superpower status to China. My guess is there will be some kind of compromise. The US will increase the number of troops in their base and probably construct new bases. America will also make sure to get access to minerals and other "what ever mother earth has in store below Greenland" once they become accessible "thanks" to Global Warming, Trump is also helping to accelerate.
