The easy way to end the Iran war - but Trump doesn’t want

When Trump started his war of choice against Iran on February 28 2026 he was probably drunk by success having captured Venezuela's Maduro the month earlier. Trump probably chose to ignore advises from high paid Pentagon officials and other strategic planers recommending against attacking Iran. Today's strategists as well as those from 1979 until now feared an attacked Iran would close the Strait Of Hormuz. So Iran did. My bet is Trump wishes to turn back the time to February 2026. Perhaps wished he had not even canceled Obama's 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. But because he knows better than professionals, has the world's biggest ego, thus can't admit he did something wrong or even defeat, and there is no time machine, Trump has himself locked in and threw the key away.

Clown show

Trump and members of his echo chamber put an incompetent clown show on display. Trump is incompetent but thinks he knows better than his Pentagon and Secret Service officials. And while there might be some brighter minds, they are spineless jellyfish, echoing whatever Trump says in fear of reprisals of the clown in charge. They'd do anything to stay in power. Executing every even absurd command of the incompetent ruler of the free world, it is not getting better but worse. Only the enemies profit from this incompetence. Iran plays Trump like a fiddle.

Stalemate and Forever War

With a selfish and incompetent leader accompanied by spineless jellyfish nothing will change. Iran will always have drones or missiles left to threaten shipping in the Strait Of Hormuz, or just use a radio to tell seafarers they get hit if they not follow the designated route laid out by Iran. Trump may escalate and bomb them as much as he likes. He might only achieve that Iran bombs Gulf countries, killing more U.S. service men and deplete the stockpile of interceptors, namely Patriot. This might result in a never ending stalemate and thus a Forever War. The one good thing of the resulting high gas prices and other items s that Americans will not vote for Trump again in the mid terms and the 2028 election, so MAGA should be history. Other than that, suffering will go on until the regime change happened in the USA.

The hard way or the easy way

In my opinion there are actually two ways out of it. A hard and an easy way. I wonder why in none of the news outlets and political TV shows I follow these were discussed.

The hard way

The USA puts boots on the ground and invades Iran. Not just islands, because they would be sitting ducks, exposed to Iranian drones and missiles. The U.S. would also have to deal with high casualty numbers and billions of destroyed equipment. As soon as service members die in the hundreds Trumps ratings should drop below 20%. But after a tremendous sacrifice in men and material the U.S. should have reopened the Strait and defeated Iran for good.

The easy way

Too bad Trump cannot admit defeat or any wrong doing. The term "compromise" is also not in his vocabulary, thus the self proclaimed deal maker is unable to make deals.

If Trump wasn't a selfish, incompetent and ignorant bully, and able for compromises, I believe there is an easy way out I haven't seen discussed anywhere. Trump would give in to Iran's demands to "manage" shipping in the Strait Of Hormuz, as the Memorandum Of Understanding laid out, which is the "northern route". Subsequently a ceasefire would follow. Let's ignore that Iran might or might not toll ships and prices will go up again, the Strait would be open, oil, gas, fertilizer and other goods flow again. Oil prices would slowly go down. Now the time has come to negotiate other important things, may be including making a new nuclear deal. But if negotiations are planed, neither Trump, nor Witkoff or Kushner, both Trump affiliates with no diplomatic experience or measurable results, should lead them.

Unfortunately Trump cannot admit defeat, cannot lose. Plus his days are numbered, why should he even care. Thus there is no way out. Trump is not taking an off ramp. The sick ego of one single man will keep the world economy hostage.

One of Trump's legacy once he is out of office is that he will be remembered as a clown for all future. Sad.
