Please don't get this wrong: I understand that a nuclear armed Iran is a threat for the free world which has to be dealt with sooner or later.
With president Trump's war of choice and his ego not to admit fault, he keeps holding America's and the world's economies hostage. And with Iran hating the USA and Israel, they might use the leverage given to them by Trump to push for a regime change.
Death to America and Israel
If I remember correctly Iran pledges death to the USA and Israel from the beginning. The whole reason of Iran's existence after the Iranian revolution 1979 might be to wipe out Israel and the United States. Although a threat to the Western World, US presidents from Carter, who was incumbent in 1979, to Reagan, two Bush, Obama and Biden, knew that it needs boots on the ground to defeat Iran. And that Iran would block the Strait Of Hormuz in case of an attack. Thus attempts were made to somewhat douse Iran's ambitions to acquire a nuclear bomb, prominently the deal president Obama struck in 2015.

Trump's war of choice
But for the sole reason Trump hates Obama and most other presidents before and after him, he canceled Obama's deal. Thereby to again encouraging Iran to pursuit uranium enrichment. A classic shot in his own foot. Meanwhile Israel's Netanyahu tried without success to persuade former US presidents since Bush to go to war with Iran to deal with the threat once and for all. All presidents before Trump knew that this would be a bad idea, because Iran would likely block the Strait Of Hormuz and attack allies in the reason. But Trump, probably drunk from the success in Venezuela kidnapping Maduro, thought it would be a walk in the park to use the momentum to attack Iran. Trump didn't even bother to ask Congress, as required by law. Thus when the US and Israel started the war on February 28th 2026, things feared would happen, happened.
Iran's resilience
Because, if this is correct, Iran's whole purpose is death to Israel and the US, plus no respect for human life even among Iranians, Iran is focusing on developing a weapon of mass destruction, namely an atomic bomb. All Iran needs to do is to play on time. That the regime survives and can eventually develop the bomb plus an ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) that can reach mainland of the United States, to bomb New York or Los Angeles. With attacking Iran and fail to topple the regime, Trump followed up on his "promise" to Make Iran Great Again, giving Iran control over the Strait Of Hormuz and thus taking the world economy hostage, with oil and food prices soaring.
Iran pushing for a regime change?
Trump's threats of more economic pressure and sanctions, or intensifying military attacks on Iran, won't bring a regime - which kills its own people uprising against it to survive - to the negotiation table.
But because Donald Trump cannot admit defeat by allowing Iran to control (and toll) the Strait Of Hormuz - at least for the time being, the status quo won't change. Oil continues to be expensive, so will consumer's food and gas prices.
Instead Trump often doubles down when pushed in a corner. Iran knows and exploits that. The mullahs just need to service just a little longer and causing longer economical pain especially to consumers in the US. That cost Trump the mid terms 2026 and the Republicans the 2028 election, with Trump ending up in jail in January that year.
Iran achieves something they would never had dreamed of: a regime change. Iran topples the president of the United States. This is priceless and worth all pain the USA could ever put Iran.
In the meanwhile I suppose more than half of the human population is looking towards the day Trump leaves the Oval Office in early 2029.
